The Department of Sociology at Shiv Nadar University (SNU) aims to train students in a critical awareness of changing social values and practices and their importance in regulating our lives and relationships with others and ourselves. Individual faculty members have undergraduate students of the department under their wing and serve as their undergraduate advisors. They are in regular contact with the students to help them and guide them through their undergraduate courses. Additionally, the students have an advisor outside their department who direct and lead the students towards a holistic interdisciplinary approach. The students also have an informal way of easing freshers into the university through a Buddy program. The sophomores in the department are assigned one-two freshers to look after, essentially, become their Buddy who in turn ease these students in their transition from school to college and assist students with their courses.
